Last weekend was Memorial Day, traditional start of barbecue season, and the weekend of the fair. Now, we all know that it ALWAYS rains on the fair, so we were expecting rain... but...
Tuesday, Rick climbed up the big pole ladder, and harvested all the high-up, super-ripe cherries.
What a feast! We ate them immediately in the best possible way: with our fingers, communally, sitting in the sunshine, chased down with cold beer.
Wednesday is typically opening day of the fair, but it's been cut back and doesn't start till Thurs. now. But nobody told the weather that. We arrive at the farm early, because Rick has the day off and we want to haul some more gravel for the pad.
Suddenly, clouds rush in and it begins to hail. Yes, hail...
And also rain like crazy. It poured down amazingly hard, leaving mud puddles.
And marshy lawn.
The sun snuck out and made a double rainbow.
The guys peek out of the bar where we had been sheltering and see just a snippet of blue sky approaching.
It got suddenly warmer, and the top of the sink began to steam.
In the sun once more, Rick surveys the farm.
While we were hiding in the bar during the storm, I said, "It's a good thing we don't get tornadoes here because I don't think this would be a very safe place in a tornado."
Well.....
No shit...the storm spawned several tornadoes in the area: to the east, south, and north of us. The above pic was in the ER, and they got another nice one of the rainbow too (which they copy-protected better than the above one, so you have to click the link if you wanna see it).
