On Monday, we picked the first ripe watermelon. The "mouse ear" leaf was totally brown and shriveled, so we knew it was ripe.
Because we planted three colors, we didn't know what color this would turn out to be.
Mmmmm.....

What We're Eating
Watermelon Lemonade
1 cup lemonade mix *
1 big slice watermelon
1 quart filtered water
* If you don't have lemonade mix in your freezer from the last season, mix 1 cup water with 1 cup sugar and cook it up, stirring till it melts, to make simple syrup. Squeeze up 1 cup of lemon juice, and add simple syrup to taste.
Mix the lemon/sugar mixture with the quart of water and some ice in a pitcher.
Set a big strainer over it, and use a spoon to scrape the watermelon into the strainer. Smush it through the strainer until only pulp is left.
